First you will do some investigating to find some
general information about the various symbols that represent America. To begin,
go to this site to start your
scavenger hunt. Print off one copy for each
member in your group. You will
work together to find the answers to the questions, but
each person is
responsible for their own answer sheet. |

For
extra
credit, you can try this one at home. Fill in
the blanks on your computer and click submit when you are finished. This will
send your responses to me to check. |

Next, your team will be assigned to research
one of the American Symbols. Together you will visit links, and read about
your
symbol. You may also use the American Symbols book collection from the classroom, the
school and public libraries, and any information that you locate on your
own. After doing the
research, your team will design a poster to present to
the class that tells about your symbol. The poster
must include pictures and/or drawings of
your symbol. It must be colored and
neat, and must reflect input and
participation of all group members.
Once you have been assigned a symbol, click
on its picture below to go to a page of
images and links for you to use for your
project. You may also see Mrs. Wilson
for any additional materials she may have
for you. |

|
|
 |
Next, you team will create a talking tableau
to present to the class that depicts your
symbol. Your presentation must have a
clear introduction. The tableau must
clearly represent your symbol in some
way. All members will have a brief
speaking part. |
| |
|
|
 |
Finally, you will create your own NEW
original American symbol OR a NEW original
symbol to represent our class of
third graders at Desert Harbor. Your
new creation must include an appropriate
symbol, a written description of the symbol,
and an explanation of how the new symbol
represents our class. |
